Statement
My work is rooted in my own personal experiences, the storyteller capturing pivotal moment, using my art to navigate my experiences of isolation, disconnection, and identity. These experiences layered with emotion and insight transforms these personal experiences into universal stories. Materials are the cornerstone of my process based work. Materials have narrative, like an actor; can assume many different personalities, depending on the role they are asked to play adding many layers of discourse to the work. Certain materials are used to convey meanings, elicit emotions, conveying an idea of ‘self identity’, the symbols of modernity, elegant, the every day and the feminine. I am inspired by the Echtrae adventure tales from medieval Ireland where the ‘hero’ makes the conscious decision, opens the possibility to embark on a quest of understanding that converts knowledge into wisdom.
